Taco Seasoning

I've finally tweaked a recipe for homemade taco seasoning. Goodbye single serve envelopes with all your chemicals and landfill waste. The cornstarch gives it that nice thickening quality missing in many homemade recipes I've found. Substitute arrowroot powder if you'd prefer to avoid corn.

Taco Seasoning

Serving Size: 4
Yield: 1 batch


1 tablespoon chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon dried onion
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano


1. Combine all ingredients. Sprinkle over one pound of browned ground beef. Add 1/2 cup water and simmer until thickened, about 10 minutes.

Couldn't be simpler. I made up a quintuple batch tonight after it received the "seal of approval" from Boy10. Can this be real food? Yes, everything can be sourced organic or "real." I'm not quite there yet, still working on my conventional spices and switching out to organic as they are used up. Baby steps! I've only linked the ingredient list to real products I've actually used.
